yes, I understand that section...
as I sent you my screenshot a few posts back.
all groups including guests have permission to see the portal recent topics.
all forum sections are entered for recent topics.

The portal is fully functional and everything thing on it is visible for every group including Guests...

Except... 'recent topics' is visible for every group but not for Guests.

The portal can only display desired forums, sub-forums, topics and posts that are also displayed in the forum overview if the permissions for the corresponding forums, sub-forums, topics and posts for the corresponding groups and / or users are in the Forum permissions have been released!
Therefore, without the portal (deactivate), check in the forum overview that the desired forums, sub-forums, topics and posts by guests can also be read in the forum overview.

I was the topic starter for the topic on that link you posted.
It was for a different issue - I did find the solution for that one myself.

... not a problem - the guests @ the portal can live without the 'recent topics'
I have followed all the suggestions from kirk in this particular
topic here and is still unresolved with all permissions assigned to guests.
I do appreciate kirk's help tho but I will leave it that way. The rest of the
portal is working well & is a useful added feature to the forum... hopefully
it will continue to thrive as phpbb updates to newer versions. Again thanks much for the help.
